Absence and Rust Treatment..How To Fix Rust On Your Car

As you may have noticed, over the past month or so not alot has gone on my site since Japfest at Castlecombe. This is primarily because I’ve been so busy on my car! I’ve finally got it lowered with the up rated springs and adjustable shocks and I’ve started to attack some of the rust problems round the front of the skirts.

Mostly because this is the first time I’ve tackled it myself as well. However I’m very pleased with the result and it’s not as daunting as you would probably imagine.

I also learnt very quickly that even if the rust doesn’t look to bad- you can be sorely mistaken! On certain areas on the front of my car, what I thought was just surface/ rust bubbles turned out to be massive holes!

This is the thing though, if you’re worried about “ruining” your car or screwing it up- just remember it’s only going to get worse to a point where it’s unsightly and you will have to start paying out massive amounts for professional welding- and if you’ve got the tools faire enough, but if not you just need to tackle it head on. It’s a simple shift in mindset and once you get started it’s easy to do and somewhat therapeutic I find.

If the car is as old as mine, it helps you to appreciate the fact it’s a comparatively old car, yet it’s actually still very sound, like apart from these few little bits and pieces on the skirts and a bit of rust around the rear arch, the rest of the car is in really good condition.

The best thing you can do is go down to your local scrap yard or garage, and look at wrecked cars that have areas of rust similar to yours and ask the owner if you can buy it or have that part cut out so you can practice on it. Yes, it’s not making any progress on your car but the gain in experience is essential so you can do a proper job on your car.

For now, enjoy some of the pictures and peruse the site, I’ll let you know what you’ll be needing to do all this tomorrow, I’ll also see if i can find some good rust treatment videos to further help you out.
